How the work braids
Arms are ongoing sub-workstreams — research can run the length of an engagement while modelling, legal, and implementation join later. Thickness tracks how many rows are active at once within a trunk.
Colour is mechanism. Rows are phase. Sub-workstreams start in their row, then join the trunk — it thickens as arms run in parallel and stays thick while they continue. A strand that spans more than one row at once draws as an area, not a line. Hover a strand or a legend key to isolate it, or drag AS OF to read the chart at a point in time.

What the diagram is arguing
The specialisation is not a sequence of jobs. Market microstructure, mechanism & incentive design, reputation, and consensus work overlap in time and reuse the same loop — research, specification, modelling and verification, implementation, legal as a design input, then teaching and communication.
This is a scaffold: market-microstructure work is filled from public artefacts; other topics will thicken as write-ups land. Dates are indicative until corrected against the record.
